Master’s Degree or New House?

This is the dilemma I’m wrestling over right now. Hubby and I want to move into a larger place and I’ve recently gotten to know an agent that I think would be a great fit. There are some foreclosures in the neighborhood in which we want to live and she’s very familiar with that ‘hood (so much so because she used to live there herself).

On the other hand, my current job is perfect for pursuing a Master’s. Work ends every day at 4:15 PM and I’m right on the Metro line out to Virginia. I’d either like a MPA or Masters in Education.

Part of me thinks that I don’t have to approach this as an either or situation, but I know that if we buy a new place, it’s going to require some sweat equity and we’ll have to carry a slight loss when we rent out our current place.

Decisions. Decisions.

New Favorite Song

"Are you lookin' at me?" (Hermit Crab, Maldives, Indian Ocean)

“Are you lookin’ at me?” (Hermit Crab, Maldives, Indian Ocean), originally uploaded by jogorman.

One nice side effect of hanging at the bar this summer is that I’ve discovered a few new bands that otherwise wouldn’t have crossed my radar (aside: This is one way in which feel really old at age 28. I used to be the person that was on cutting edge of finding new music.). My new favorite song is The Underdog

from Spoon’s newest album – Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga. When I hear it, I stop what I’m doing and just enjoy. I’m thinking of getting back on My$pace so that I do not feel like such a square. But let’s be serious here – put me on a deserted island with Jeff Buckley’s Grace and REM’s Greatest Hits and I’ll be fine for the rest of my life.

In no particular order, here are the top five albums that I want to have with me on a deserted island.

1. Jeff Buckey / Grace
2. REM / Greatest Hits
3. Mussorgsky / Pictures at an Exhibition
4. Beck / Sea Change
5. The Roots / Phrenology

Upon further review, I see a problem with my list.

Only male artists…must.remedy.that.

D’oh

I discovered the ISO/FS/Destash board on Ravelry. It will be the death of my yarn diet if I don’t walk away now.

I’ve purchased some yarn from Ayana that she had posted there (it’s the same brand/style I’m using for Mom’s Clap, but a different color way). I’ve also purchased a beautiful black Cole Haan bag. It is just the bag I’ve been holding out for fall/summer to/from work. These purchases plus Yarn Pirate’s Booty Club (that I rejoined and from which received my “first” shipment on Monday–see below for a bad picture)

plus Cosmic Fiber’s Notorious yarn club will have me rolling in more sock yarn than I know what to do with. I’ll have to be selective in what I keep and try to trade the ones I’m not in love with for dupes of ones I do so that I can make larger items.
